Laundry Tips

Practical methods for sorting, drying and extending the life of your textiles

Sorting by colour isn't enough — the temperature, detergent type and drying method determine how long your clothes last. A t-shirt consistently washed at 60 °C (140 °F) instead of 30 °C (86 °F) loses its shape twice as fast. These guides compile practical techniques — effective sorting, correct dosing, optimal drying and technical fabric care — based on textile-manufacturer recommendations and GINETEX / ISO 3758 labelling standards.

FAQ

Should you use liquid or powder detergent?
Powder detergent is more effective on grease stains and white loads (it contains bleaching agents). Liquid detergent is better for colours and low temperatures (30-40 °C / 86-104 °F).
How do you remove a stain without damaging the fabric?
Act fast: blot (never rub) with cold water, then apply a stain remover suited to the stain type. Blood = cold water, red wine = salt + sparkling water, grease = dish soap. Always treat before machine washing.
Can white vinegar replace fabric softener?
Yes — about 100 ml (3.4 fl oz) of white vinegar in the softener compartment softens laundry, neutralises limescale and removes detergent residue. It's safe for the machine and cheaper than commercial fabric softener.
