4 reference tables, 63 rows in total, published as JSON and CSV so they can be read by a machine instead of scraped from a page. Every row carries the publisher it came from.

What these are, and what they are not

These are sourced compilations, not laboratory results. Launderwise does not operate an in-house wash-test rig, so no figure here is a measurement we made. Each table gathers what standards bodies, manufacturers or a named third-party reference already publish, normalises it into one shape, and keeps the attribution attached to the row rather than to a footnote.

Where a table has no standards body behind it, we say so on the card instead of letting the format imply an authority the figures do not have. Every card carries one of these badges:

How we research and check every guide

How they stay honest

Each export is generated from the same source the human page renders — the typed module behind the visible comparison table, or the glossary entries behind the care-symbol pages. There is no second copy to fall out of date. For the three fibre and weight tables a release check regenerates the file and compares it byte for byte against that source, so a download that had drifted would fail the build rather than ship. The care-symbol export is the exception, and we would rather say so than round it up: it is checked on symbol count against the glossary, not byte for byte.

Files carry no timestamp on purpose: they are derived entirely from content, so a build clock would change the bytes without changing a single fact.

This frozen release preserves the exact eight JSON and CSV distributions described here on . The manifest records sources, methods, file sizes and hashes; the checksum file verifies every data file byte for byte; and the citation file supplies reusable collection metadata.

DOI status: not assigned. We will publish one only after an authorised repository issues it.

Licence and attribution

The datasets are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0) — the same licence the structured data on this page declares. In practice: copy them, adapt them and redistribute them in any medium, for any purpose including commercially, as long as you credit Launderwise with a link back to this page, link the licence and say if you changed anything. There is no share-alike clause: whatever you build on them stays under whatever terms you choose.

The upstream sources keep their own terms. Attributing Launderwise does not transfer any right over ISO's standard text, a manufacturer's guidance or a third-party publisher's figures — the per-row source column is there so you can go and check the original.

Both formats are served with an open cross-origin policy, so a page or script on another domain can fetch them directly. The JSON carries a count, a description, an isBasedOn field and the row array named on each card below; the CSV carries the same rows with a header line.

Every ISO 3758 / GINETEX laundry care symbol, decoded with what it means and what to do, each backed by a cited source. Machine-readable companion to the care-symbol decoder at launderwise.com/glossary/.

How it was compiled

Built from the glossary entries published at /glossary/: one row per care symbol, each carrying the same citation as its glossary page. Every row cites ISO 3758:2012; the symbol set itself is the care-labelling code published by GINETEX. The wording is our own reading of the standard, not a reproduction of it.

Bleach safety by fibre

Which bleach is safe on which fibre — chlorine (liquid) vs colour-safe (oxygen) — as a machine-readable table. Fibre rules are Clorox manufacturer guidance; an individual garment is always governed by its care-label bleach symbol (GINETEX). Companion to launderwise.com/blog/what-fabrics-can-you-bleach/.

How it was compiled

Row by row from Clorox's published fabric-safety guidance, which is the bleach maker's own rule for its own product. The care label's bleach symbol governs any individual garment, so the GINETEX routing sits alongside the fibre rule rather than under it. The table is generated from the same typed module that renders the visible chart in the companion guide, so the two cannot drift.

The dot heat values are GINETEX; the no-tumble fibre rules cite Woolmark, Woolite, RMIT and the rayon manufacturer. An individual garment is always governed by its care-label tumble symbol. How it was compiled

The dot heat values are the GINETEX care-symbol definitions. The no-tumble fibre rules each cite the body that states them: Woolmark for wool, Woolite for silk, an RMIT textile scientist for elastane, and Asia Pacific Rayon — the fibre manufacturer — for viscose. Generated from the same typed module that renders the visible chart in the companion guide.

Laundry weight by item

Approximate DRY weights of common laundry items (children / women / men where they differ), as a machine-readable table in grams. Figures are approximate estimates from inthewash.co.uk — no international standard defines per-garment weights — and are carried with row-level provenance. How it was compiled

No international standard defines per-garment weights, so there is no authority to compile from. Every figure is an approximate dry-weight estimate published by In The Wash, a third-party UK consumer site — that attribution is carried on every single row of the export, not just in the header. Two of that page's rows (a dressing gown at 6–8 kg, net curtains at 6.5 kg) are implausibly high and are deliberately excluded. The one hard fact around the table is the definition of a machine's kg rating: dry-textile mass, per EU Regulation 2019/2023.
